Matching Goal in Sight!

We are so close to meeting the Board matching challenge of $10,000. With one month to go, members are less than $2000 from meeting the matching goal. Help us get there with a donation of any size. Just 20 donations of $100 or 800 donations of $25 will get us to our goal. All donations are welcome.

#GivingTuesday (December 3rd) — Donate via Facebook to double your gift!

At 8:00 am on December 3, 2019, the Facebook match will go live, matching dollar for dollar on a first-come, first-served basis until $7M in eligible donations are matched.

100% of donations made through Facebook Payments go to the nonprofit organization; which means every dollar goes to the causes people care about.

Why the challenge?

One of the most important programs within the PA/NJ Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation is the chestnut research orchard at Penn State. We have planted over 5,000 trees there, on 31 acres, as part of long-term program to find hybrid trees that are blight resistant and able to survive in the forest.  As you can imagine, maintaining this orchard, stress-testing the trees, harvesting nuts and winnowing out inferior trees takes an incredible effort by our orchard manager and student interns. In addition, the orchard manager maintains other satellite orchards, and in 2020 will be installing a new wild American chestnut conservation orchard at Penn State.

The orchard manager position is in jeopardy as the large bequest the chapter received back in 2014 will be running out in early 2021. We are actively working on a sustainable long-term funding source, which we hope to have in place within a year. As a stop gap measure to maintain this position while we secure sustainable funding, your board pooled their financial resources to raise $10,000 as a matching gift for this cause.  We are asking each member to donate $25 or more, which means that the impact of your donation will be doubled. You don’t have to be a member to support our restortation efforts!

Please note that the PA/NJ Chapter of TACF is established as an independent 501(c)-3 non-profit organization. Our all-volunteer board receives no compensation or reimbursements. As a chapter of TACF, we receive $15 from your annual membership of $40, and rely on that $15 along with donations to Chapter activities.

Donations can be made by check to our office or by credit card by visiting our website .

All donations are tax-deductible.

Your support makes all the difference and is deeply appreciated.  Please join us in helping continue the fight to save the American chestnut and restore it to the forests of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
