Local Artist Supports PATACF

Kimberly Helder at work.

Many thanks to local jewelry artist, Kimberly Helder, of Helders Design who is putting her artistry to work to support the restoration efforts of the PA Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation (PA-TACF). Using twigs from Pure American chestnut twigs collected by Steve Hoy at our research orchards at Penn State, she is making American chestnut earrings. For every pair she sells she has agreed to give $5 to our Chapter.

This collaboration came about through a conversation between the artist and myself, at a holiday craft festival last fall. After purchasing a pair of Appalachian Twig Earrings, similar to the ones pictured above, I spoke to Kimberly about promoting and supporting the work of PATACF with an American chestnut version. I’m really thrilled to launch this opportunity. I love the idea of supporting a local artist and having that local artist become a supporter of our restoration mission.
