Come get your science on!
Be a part of our restoration mission to bring back the American chestnut.
The PA/NJ Chapter of TACF is seeking volunteers to help conduct Small Stem Assays (SSA) with American chestnut seedlings this June. No experience necessary.
SSA is one method being used to test chestnut seedlings for resistance to chestnut blight. On June 20th and 21st volunteers will work together with staff to 1,200 inoculate seedlings with the chestnut blight fungus. After which we will measure canker length every 4-6 weeks, but also count dead trees every day. “Days-to-wilt” is an important metric to measure for determining which trees have resistance.
Dates: Thursday, June 20th and Friday, June 21st
Time: 9:30 pm to 4:00 pm ( Sign up for an hour or the whole day).
Where: Shade house at Forest Resources Lab, University Park, PA, 16802 (Corner of Hastings Road and University Drive)
To volunteer: Email Jean at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 814-863-7192
